The contest “National Dance Talent 2008” was held in Hanoi , attracting 49 contestants from 23 artistic troupes nationwide. The success of the contest brought the truth to those who have a great passion for this art form and a generation of vital and creative young dancers and choreographers.

After six years since the national dance talent contest in 2002, the dancing sector had just conditions to organize the event that served as a firm foundation for the sector’s coming regular contests and provided chances to discover talents and encourage dancers, particularly young artists who have made great sacrifices to building the dancing art of Vietnam.

At this contest, almost all contestants were very young, ranging from about 18 to 25 years old. They participated in all genres of dancing, such as European classical dancing, national dancing, contemporary dancing, etc. People’s Artist Chu Thuy Quynh, Chairwoman of Vietnam Dancers’ Association, said that there was not much difference in the professional levels among dancers and she highly appreciated skilful techniques and creative idiosyncrasies of contestants. Some of them performed difficult techniques well, such as acrobatics and new skills that require the artist’s hard-training.

Among the young talented dancers, Ta Thuy Chi highly impressed the enthusiasts and judges. The “golden girl” spent nine years studying and performing in China . She is now working as an assistant professor at Ho Chi Minh City’s Dancing School . With two items “A group of three people” choreographed by her and “Nam Phuong mau te”, she showed her talent by basic, strong dancing movements and the harmonious combination of feeling, movements and music.

Also, the combination of flexible and strong dancing movement of contestant Nguyen Thi Thanh Hang from the Army’s Art School when she performed “The fate” helped the audience sympathize with the character who overcame difficulties in life with an aspiration to live with noble and beautiful values. It is impossible not to mention dancers Cao Duc Toan, Phan Van Luong, Quynh Thuong and Phuong Duy who performed traditional items, such as “Thi No-Chi Pheo”, “The call of the wild” and “Ho Nguyet turns into a fox”, and contemporary items of “Kep ba la”, “For the love”..

The contest showed the maturity and creativeness of a young generation of dancers and brought the public a hope of enthusiastic progress of the Vietnam ’s dancing art in the future.
