Nguyen Van Hoan works on a product.

Airbrushing is one of the most dynamic and versatile mediums and a unique and creative art that has been applied in many fields in the modern life. The artist usually uses the airbrush to paint on different surfaces - clothing, fingernails, laptops, mobile phones, cars, motorcycles and helmets – just to name a few.

In Vietnam, the art has become more popular in recent years with the establishment of some airbrush groups that consist of painters, graphic designers and skilled technicians and workers in the field of industrial painting. They coordinate with experts in the fields of painting, photography, advertising, architecture, construction, mechanical engineering, etc., to create artworks on objects that show the idea and personality of the products’ owners.

Among airbrush groups in Vietnam , “Hoa Van Airbrush” is very famous for creating unique airbrushed products. The group won the first prize for graphic ingenuity for its painted car Nouvo Pharaoh at the Graphic Yamaha 2007.

With the desire to promote the development of the art in Vietnam, Nguyen Van Hoan, the owner of “Hoa Van Airbrush” painting studio, decided to coordinate with other artists from other airbrush groups nationwide, such as ABVN, ACAB, DEXOM 555 and Vexenghethuat, plus Wicked Airbrush from Australia . “Like other painting arts, the art requires the skill and flexible hands of the artist. Also, it needs air pressure to push paint or ink via a valve to create the paint flow with tiny drops. By constantly adjusting the distance the airbrush is from the painting surface, the artist changes the density of the paint, thereby adding to the creativeness. The technique allows the seamless blending of two or more colours. Airbrushed patterns and images will look more natural and lively with a high level of realism than those created by other painting methods,” Hoan said.

Most of the renowned airbrush groups at home and abroad operate on the principle of meeting the different tastes and personalities of customers. However, they still ensure the criteria of habits and customs. Before painting, the artists learn about the hobby, career, age and other information of their customers so they can seek suitable ideas for products.

It may be said that the airbrush is an ideal tool with the combination of painting art and industrial art on different materials to create unique pieces of art. Actually, it has become a necessary part in today’s artistic creativity.
