Young masters of
Quy Nhon City.

There are many ways to compare Quy Nhon City (Binh Dinh Province) with others, but Binh Dinh People's Committee Chairman, Vu Hoang Ha, has his own comparison when saying: "Quy Nhon is like a fairy, who after years of secluding herself came out of her palace and joined in the ordinary life, and this made her more attractive."

Quy Nhon was allowed by the Government to upgrade from a provincial town to a city level. At present, the City covers an area of 216,44 sq. km, from Binh De Pass in the North to Cu Mong Pass in the South, with a population of 250,000 inhabitants. The local area, relating to Sa Huynh Culture (dating back to 2,500 B.C), had been the capital of the Champa Kingdom for five centuries and the native land of many talented and famous personalities.

In the past five years, the City's annual socio-economic average growth rate was more than 12.5%. The establishment of the industrial parks (IPs), together with the upgrading of the infrastructures, including roads, harbors and airports, made a turning point in its economic development. The Phu Tai IP alone, after six years of operation, has lured 112 businesses, of which 70 businesses have stable operations and 48 businesses exported products according to their clients' requirements.

One of the private businesses in Phu Tai IP is the Quy Nhon Wood Chips Company. One year after operating, it recently exported to Japan 50,000 tonnes of dry wood chips. The Tan Long Company Limited, specializing in quarrying stones for construction and fine arts article making, produces annually more than 50,000 sq.m of stone (or 2,000 cu.m). Director Tran Ngoc Quan said: "My native place is the land of stone. If we don't exploit this resource but let people from other places do it, it will be a pity for us. We are lucky because nearly one year after our company was established, we had clients from the United States to place orders. Now, we have other clients from Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore."

These initial achievements are attributed to Binh Dinh Province's policy to attract investment as well as talented people. Domestic and foreign investors in the province have enjoyed many preferences, including the low land fee, the exemption of some taxes and particularly simple procedures and quick settlement of any problem, added to pure, open-minded and respectful attitude from the province's authorities. Intellectuals, depending to their educational degrees and capabilities, when getting a job in the City will be given some preferences. For example, people with a doctoral degree will be given a plot of land, worth VND 1 billion, to build a house and an initial loan of VND 30 million, then a monthly allowance of VND 4 million beside the State's wages.

Economic development helped change the City's panorama. Potential along the coast has been exploited. Along the Quy Nhon - Song Cau Beach, the 4-star Life Resort, the Royal British Resort, the COSEVCO and Saigon Tourist Hotels were built and are well operated.

To prepare for a strong human resource, the Quy Nhon University was established one year ago on the foundation of the former Quy Nhon Teachers' Training College. The old Quy Nhon airport became a modern and spacious supermarket. Changes are taking place every day in Quy Nhon, a City that embraces mountains, rivers and the sea.

In the near future the City will expand to the other side of the Thi Nai Dam. On Phuong Mai Peninsula, four urban residential quarters will be built, including the central quarter, the northern quarter, the western quarter and the Nhon Hoi quarter. This surely gives a more beautiful and impressive face to Quy Nhon City and places it among other modern cities of Vietnam.
