According to the
Ministry of Education and Training, Chief Representative of UNESCO Vietnam,
Vibeke Jensen recently sent a letter to Deputy Prime Minister-cum-Minister of
Education and Training Nguyen Thien Nhan to apologize for its mistaken reporting
that Vietnam has one million student drops. In the letter, Vibeke Jensen wrote:
“I regret to inform you that at the ceremony to release the Education for All
Global Monitoring Report 2008 held in Plaza Hotel on November 3, 2008, UNESCO
mistakenly reported on the drop-out rate in Vietnam. The press release by UNESCO
for the ceremony should have read: In Vietnam, about one million student age
children do not go to school”.
On behalf of
UNESCO office in Hanoi, Vibeke Jensen pledged to correct the information in the
press release and send it to all newspapers and press agencies in
Vietnam.
