According to Vietnam
News Agency’s correspondent in Geneva, on September 9 the United Nations
Conference on Disarmament (CD) ended its last session of 2008 with an annual
report submitted to the United Nation General Assembly. Vietnam will undertake the role of
rotating President of the UN CD for the first session of
2009. Speaking
at the session, Pham Quoc Tru, Charge d’Affairs of the Permanent Mission of
Vietnam to the United Nations, the World Trade Organization and other
international organizations in Geneva, made clear
it is an honour for Vietnam to be the first CD president
for 2009. Vietnam is determined to conduct
consultations during the break period with all CD member countries with the view
of providing the best conditions to start the CD’s work next year helping to
bring success to the CD session in 2009. The task will obviously be facilitated
by cooperation among all, particularly the presidents of the 2008 and 2009
sessions and the success of the 2009 session of CD are up to the joint efforts
of all CD members. Therefore, Vietnam calls upon all delegations to
approach the 2009 session with an open mind and in a spirit of compromise,
flexibility and renewed determination in order to achieve the Conference’s
objectives. |
