Nguyen Trung Truc
Temple Festival is held annually to
honour Nguyen Trung Truc (1837-1868), the leader of the anti-French Colonialists
Uprisings in Southern Vietnam.
A week before the festival, hundreds
of people pour to the temple to do the cleaning, tent erecting and building
stoves for rice cooking in preparation for the death anniversary of the patriot.
In the festival, people hold a
worshiping ceremony and reproduce the fighting in which the French Ship Hope was
sunk on the Nhat
Tao River. Other activities such as chess
playing and boat race are also held.
A few days after the death
anniversary, people spare a place in the temple to serve vegetarians with free
meals. The serving time lasts from 3 am to 12 pm.
The rice and food donated by the
festival participants are then distributed to the needy.
