10.5 Billion USD Invested in Dung Quat Economic Zone

According to the Management Board of Dung Quat Economic Zone, by March 13, 2008, this zone had attracted 144 investment projects and accepted the investment for 49 projects with a total registered capital of 10.5 billion USD, exceeding the total investment the province had planned for up to 2010.

There are large investment projects such as Tycoons Steel Rolling Plant by Tycoons Worldwide Steel Company Ltd., with an investment of 3 billion USD; Dung Quat Oil Refinery Plant by Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) with an investment of 2.5 billion USD; Dung Quat Shipyard built by Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Corporation with an investment of almost 400 million USD; and a 260 million USD plant by the Doosan-Vietnam Heavy Industry Company Ltd.

By 2010, Dung Quat Economic Zone will need about 31,000 workers for various industries, especially mechanics and dynamics.

Quang Ngai Provincial People’s Committee Chairman Nguyen Xuan Hue has approved a project on vocational training and labour supply for the zone in the 2008-2010 period with a budget of 133 million USD to train 29,000 workers.
